Background

To maintain momentum in the museum’s visitor journey, I wanted to have another show stopper moment in the Suburbia exhibit. I designed a small house, representative of the style found in suburban Wisconsin in the 60’s, and used audio, vintage advertising, and period-appropriate props to set the scene.

The Suburbia Exhibit blends into the History of Mowing, where visitors can see and learn about the design changes in Ariens products through the years.

Design and Development

A lot of research went in to creating a replica representitive of a 60’s suburban home! I knew I wanted a middle class, every day American look and feel, with details that placed it within Wisconsin, and which would be nostalgic to many of our visitors. I’m happy to say that it worked! When people who’ve grown up in the area during the 60’s reach the exhibit, they’re immediately pointing out things that spark joyful memories.
